For the second half of the program, the Capital Wind Symphony Chamber Winds is thrilled to collaborate with The Bob Band and the talented vocalist Alissa Roca to present dynamic covers of Bob Dylan’s iconic songs. This exciting partnership brings a fresh and symphonic twist to Dylan’s classic repertoire, blending the power of a wind ensemble with the energy of rock and folk music.
The highlight of the evening will be John Corigliano’s Mr. Tambourine Man: Seven Poems of Bob Dylan. This remarkable work reimagines seven of Dylan’s poems in a classical art song format, transforming the iconic folk songs into a contemporary, symphonic experience. Corigliano’s setting strips away the original melodies, allowing the poetry to stand on its own and revealing new depths of meaning. The selected poems include “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Clothes Line,” “All Along the Watchtower,” “Chimes of Freedom,” “Postlude: Forever Young,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” and “Masters of War.” Each piece is an intricate blend of Dylan’s poetic genius and Corigliano’s masterful composition, offering a fresh perspective on these timeless works.
