Celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month by watching some of the funniest Asian comedians in the country! This all-Asian lineup features (from L to R) Justin Um (NBC), Shaunak Godkhindi (Don’t Tell Comedy), Ray Lau (Don’t Tell Comedy), Shelley Kim (CBS), and Christian Escoto (DC Improv).
Justin Um is a clean comedian with a natural ability to connect and engage with various audiences through his unwavering happiness. He describes his style of comedy as "vulnerable and empathetic humor", which is exhibited by his love and genuine affection for people. Justin focuses on sharing his unique experiences as a second-generation immigrant through his insightful perspective, self-deprecating honesty, and positive crowd interactions. Justin has been featured on NBC, CBS, and The Korea Times, and has hosted for Ian Bagg, Geoffrey Asmus, Benji Brown, Francisco Ramos, and many others. @justinumcomedy
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Christian Escoto began performing comedy after his high school graduation. Since then, he regularly performs around the DC area and the Baltimore region. Using his quick wit and stage persona, Christian entertains the audience with jokes and stories about growing up in DC area as a Filipino-American. He is a regular at the DC Improv and Hotbed Comedy Club. Christian has been seen at Skankfest, San Francisco Sketchfest, Asheville Comedy Festival and has showcased at NACA and APCA conferences. He currently tours colleges all across the country. @cgescoto
Shelley Kim is a comedian, producer, and content creator based in Washington DC. A rising star, Shelley has been featured in the Washingtonian and “The Art of Comedy” on PBS and “Comedy in the Capital” on CBS. The Washington Post also listed her as one of the “10 Funniest Comedians Working in D.C. right now.” She has performed with national headliners including Ramy Youssef, Todd Barry, Dulce Sloan, and Judah Friedlander. Most recently, Shelley opened for Roy Wood Jr. and Jordan Klepper on their sold-out “America: For the Last Time” tour. @machinegunshelley_
Shaunak Godkhindi is an NYC-based comedian, who performs all over the country. His standup has been heard on Netflix is a Joke Radio, has a special on Don’t Tell Comedy. He’s performed at festivals such as SXSW, High Plains, Laughing Skull Fest, Red Clay Comedy Fest, and has garnered a small following through viral sketch comedy and online characters.He once made a lady laugh so hard she peed a little and she emailed him after the show saying that her night was ruined. Ray Lau is a Cantonese American standup comedian. His style has been praised by audiences for being unique, relatable, lighthearted, and playful. Ray’s most viral joke is about the “Chipotle Bean Scheme” and has been seen millions of times online. He has filmed a secret set for Don’t Tell Comedy and was featured on Season 2 of Iliza Schlesinger’s The Locals.
